Baby Clothes Size Guide: From Newborn to 18 Months

Babies grow fast – often faster than parents expect. This guide explains how baby clothing sizes work and how to plan your baby's wardrobe from the first days to 18 months.

Fit varies by design, so always check the size details on each product page.

How baby sizes work

Baby clothes are usually labelled by age range. The age is a guide only: a big baby may skip straight to the next size, while a smaller baby may stay in a size longer. Weight and length matter more than age.

Size by size

  • 0–3 months – the newborn stage. You'll change outfits several times a day, so front-opening jablas, knot jablas and soft jumpsuits are easiest. This is the size used in our hospital kits.
  • 3–6 months – babies become more active. Button frocks, jabla and shorts sets and night suits work well.
  • 6–9 months – sitting and starting to move. Co-ord sets and night suits give freedom to wriggle.
  • 9–12 months – crawling and pulling up. Zip frocks and night suits make dressing quick.
  • 12–18 months – first steps. Co-ord sets and breathable night suits for active toddlers.

When to size up

  • Poppers or buttons strain or won't close
  • Sleeves or legs ride up
  • Outfits leave marks on your baby's skin

It's often worth buying the next size before you need it, so you're never caught short.

How many outfits do you need?

For the newborn stage, many parents find 7–10 everyday outfits enough, depending on how often you do laundry. Muslin dries quickly, which helps in the UAE.
